Formula
Needed Average = (Target − Σ(Score × Weight/100)) / (Remaining Weight/100)
Where each completed assignment contributes Score × Weight/100 toward your overall grade, and Remaining Weight is the share of your grade still left to earn. Remaining assignments are weighted by their share of the course grade, not counted equally. Results are rounded to two decimals; aim above the displayed threshold.

Important Notes
- Weights should reflect each assignment's share of your final grade as stated in your syllabus
- If the completed weights already add up to 100%, there's no remaining weight left to solve for
- A needed average over 100% means the target isn't mathematically reachable
- A needed average at or below 0% reaches the target under this model; mandatory submissions or minimum exam scores may still apply
- This tool assumes a simple weighted-average grading scheme — check with your instructor if yours works differently

Account for the whole course.
If completed work contributes 40 percentage points and 50% remains, reaching 85% overall requires (85 − 40) ÷ 0.50 = 90% on the remainder.
The condition that changes the answer.
Completed and remaining weights must total 100%. A displayed grade from a learning platform may already renormalize completed assignments.
